Tal Reemarchook passed his dissertation defense on January 13, 2011. Congratulations Tal! The title of his dissertation is Out of Themanos: A Model of Combined Expressive Art and Outreach Therapy. He will be doing his public presentation here at Lesley on Thursday May 19, 2011 prior to our doctoral hooding ceremonies. Congrats to Tal! Mark the date and plan to join us!

Students!

Our students have been busy presenting! The American Art Therapy Association (AATA) had its conference in November and several students presented.

Denise Malis presented a paper on "Gendered Landscapes: The Impact of Social Construct on the Female Art Therapist" and was on a panel titled "Positive Images Strategies, towards Agency, Insight, and Reflection: An Art Committee Presentation."

Jill Wargolet co-presented "Within Castle Walls: Art Therapy in Medical Healthcare Settings."

Amy Morrison was on a panel about Undergraduate Art Therapy. Her segment of the panel was on "Relational and Transformative Education Through Arts Based Learning for Undergraduates."

Chris Belkofer presented on "Art Therapy and Neuroscience."

Well done!

The Expressive Therapies Summit was held in New York City. PhD students Yehuda Berman, Nicole Hahna, Daniel Hyams, Craig Haen, Becky Fleetwood, and Rachel Brandoff attended and presented. PhD Faculty members, Mitchell Kossak, Karen Estrella, and Julia Byers were also there.

AMTA Conference

Here are some photos from the American Music Therapy Conference which was held in Cleveland, OH. Many doctoral students attended and presented. 

Jean Nemeth and Julie Andring performed on stage with Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer! The ukulele is the new hot instrument in MT. Julie will be doing some adjunct teaching at Anna Maria College in Paxton, MA in Spring '11

Nicole Hahna (far right) was there with some of her students from Slippery Rock University. Nicole co-presented a 5 hour CMTE on Feminist Pedagogy in MT.

Krystal Demaine was also in attendance and busy thinking about her pilot study!

I was there (far right) and did some celebrating with other AMTA Past Presidents.

Update on Doctoral Students and Alumni

Doctoral Students

Lauren Parmelee Murphy, organized the ArtReach strand for Art Therapists and Art Educators who present therapeutc strategies at the Art Educators of New Jersey annual conference. The conference titled Art Sparks Genius included a variety of workshops. Murphy presented on facilitating client self understanding utilizing mandalas as models for organizational structure. 

 

Rachel Brandoff and Becky Fleetwood have been organizing the Expressive Therapies Summit in NYC. They, and other students are presenting as well! Their link is

Jill Wargolet had an article published in the AATA newsletter on "The Expressive Arts Studio: One Sketch of Art Therapy in a Medical Setting."

Olena Darewych presented at the 2010 Women's Mental Health Conference in Toronto, Canada on "The Use of the Creative Arts in Building Bridges with At Risk Orphans in the Ukraine."

Several students were at the recent AATA conference - I'm sure we will be posting their presentations soon.
